Blog #6, Fall 2024
This week I really tried to push to make some vessels that were not as uniform as previous ones. It was hard to make myself not keep them perfect. As well as trying to push bigger sizes in recent ones on top of that. The first one I finished was done in high fire clay that I want in the wood fire.
While I was out Tuesday I stopped by a river to try and dig some local clay. The whole time I was doing it I wasn't sure what I was digging up was clay. I got some back to the studio to filter it out and got to put a little test in the pit fire Jooby started. I really liked how it turned out and I am excited to do some more testing and collect some more clay down the line.
For the second piece I started this week I made it in the red cone six clay and painted flashing slips on some of the strips for the soda kiln. I really liked how it came out and was really excited to see the final product, but like a silly little girl I tried to move back onto my desk on the cart it was on and knew I gave it some structural damage. It unfortunately didn’t survive the night and fell onto the floor. However I feel really confident in the construction and know I can definitely build that large. I just need to leave it alone when it's done lol.
