One half of the diptych
Tree roots it was based on
First finished piece
Well that's the end of another week here! It was definitely a busy one. I completed my goal of submitting work to the NCEA student show which felt nice to get done. Felt good to have one piece finished, and definitely shows me the direction I want to lean towards in terms of finish on the pieces. (Also shoutout to Emma for the photography help) We had our raku-BQ this week which was a lot of fun to hang out with everyone, and to get to see some stuff fired.
Finished the body of two more pots which I am hoping will be sort of like a diptych and go together. I built a tree off the base of the two, and I don’t think I will keep going in that direction, but I wanted to test and see what it would look like when they were next to each other. On top of that I built the two so that when they were next to each other they would create some nice negative space. I don't think it was totally successful, but it was a good challenge. I think breaking it down into the shapes and patterns I see have made the best pieces so far so I tried to get some inspiration by going back to that. For the week coming up I think I am going to use a lot of patterns the light shining through the trees makes on the floor.
I am hoping to have enough work soon to fill and fire the soda kiln so I can get some much needed testing done, and see if the results from that is the direction I want to go in further.
