Blog #13, Fall 2024

First part of the week I spent finishing the pedestal box out of porcelain paper towels as well as starting a new big piece to sort of match my other one I had completed previously. Thursday I came in and finished up the rest of the big pot hoping to get it bisqued with the other one in the Bailey before the wood fire. Friday I took the day off to do other errands etc. Saturday morning, I spent the time making brunch and painting Christmas houses with Emma and Sarah; it was nice to take a second away from clay and enjoy another light hearted craft. Saturday evening, I came in and loaded the Bailey and began the process of candling it to fire it fully Sunday. I also took the opportunity to glaze some of my other work including some cups and egg cartoons. I also pried the supports off the box set up and repaired any patches that had come away with the supports. When I came in on Sunday, I had my fingers crossed that the pilots would still be on and thank god they were, so I started the climb to cone 06. I definitely did the initial jump too fast because the newer pot that wasn’t completely dry blew up, so I felt really bad about that. While I was firing, I worked on new pieces exploring different ways to add texture and scar them as well as helping Ryan load a cone 6 kiln which I threw those egg cartoons and cups from the day in.I finished the pot I started and the rest of the firing.
