Deer from a much needed walk

Starting Monday, I began a new large piece for the wood kiln in December, I am hoping to do two more larger pieces for the firing. This new one is a similar shape to the last one I made; I find these bigger pieces allow the texture to be more impactful. I plan to do more scarring with wadding before going in the kiln. I am excited to see the effects of this clay and the creative process along with the firing of the kiln itself. I also helped Sarah load her piece into Big Bailey. On Tuesday, I spent the day making a new batch of clay with Emma. This took a turn for the worst because the mixer kept getting stuck so we tried to solve that with extra water and it ended up getting really soupy. During class on Wednesday, we walked the trail of Emma, Jooby, and Kade’s crit installation. It made me think about other ways of installing my own work down the road and new processes to experiment with my own work. Thursday was the student work reception. After having seen it getting assembled and helping with that process it was really rewarding and fun to see how it all came together and to see how people responded to it. Overall, I was super pleased with how things turned out. I did not expect my pieces to be received as well as they were but it was really cool to see other people’s thoughts on my work. Friday and Saturday I didn’t make it into the studio due to other obligations. Sunday, I spent the day doing some fun more functional wear pieces. I hadn’t really done much of this for awhile so it was a really nice break to do something in clay that was more like everyday and it turns out egg cartons are harder to make than I thought. This coming week, I hope to make good progress on this new piece and get some good shots of my other works just to keep up to date with my portfolio.
