Blog #9, Spring 2025

This started off with work at the Commissary (prep kitchen) so I did not make it into the studio like normal. Tuesday, the kiln was cool enough to unload! Woohoo! After unloading the work, I must say that it is the first firing at IUS that I have been really pleased with and it only encourages me to make and learn more about the process. During class, we looked at each person’s line blends and talked about the next step, the triaxial blend. We had a little check in with Ryan and Emma so I didn’t get a ton of time to really explore my work from the kiln. Wednesday was a kitchen day so I did not make it in. Thursday, I spent time cleaning the kiln and all the shelves as well as rewashing the floor and shelves. I also gathered some more wood ash for testing. Friday, I came in and made some platters and plates for testing different sizes and shapes. I worked and finished up my triaxial blend using wood ash, G200, and Newman red with no base glaze to keep it similar to my line blend. I am excited to get the results from that soon! The weekend was spent taking photos of all the stuff I pulled from the soda. After taking the photos, it made me really appreciate the work I produced. The photos came out super nice, and thankfully didn’t need that much edited. I was really happy with how everything turned out and again makes me excited about another one soon!
