Blog #11, Spring 2025
Monday, I came in and made a bunch of things including more mug bodies, a specialty plate that Chef had requested of me, then worked on more plates and finished up the ones from the week prior. Kade unloaded his soda kiln which I had put two mugs in to get refired since I wasn’t fully satisfied with them so I got to see those. They came out a lot darker than the ones I had fired, which while I was satisfied with mine made me think about how I can get more range of colors out of my next soda fire. Tuesday, I spent time manipulating the bowl I had thrown the week before. I was never satisfied with my bowls since the thrown, smooth effect didn’t fit into my hand built world in my brain; after manipulating them and giving them more of a textured outside they fit with the rest of my work a lot better. Wednesday I was in the kitchen. Thursday morning, I worked prep and delivered lunch to corporate America. When I got into the studio for class, I spent time pinching the mugs I had thrown. Friday morning, I submitted work to the Heat Works show in Cincy and heard back that I had got into the Made Market summer show. That afternoon, I worked again so didn’t make it in. Saturday morning, I taught two individual throwing lessons as AA Clay. Then Mia and I walked the walking bridge from Louisville into Indiana and got a late lunch and ice cream then walked back and spent the evening watching basketball. Sunday, I came in and worked on some salt dishes and other small items to put in the soda kiln to take home to the store.
